A Notified Body is an independent organization, designated by an EU country, to assess the conformity of certain products before they are placed on the market. Notified Bodies can be seen as "gatekeepers" that keep unsafe products away from the European market. Because of this important role, Notified Bodies must be accredited to ensure they have the necessary competence, impartiality, and reliability to perform their tasks effectively. That is where accreditation comes in. Accreditation ensures that the Notified Body is competent to carry out these assessments and that it operates in a consistent, impartial and reliable manner.
In order to guarantee this, a Notified Body need to comply with ISO 17065. A Notified Body is assessed by a national accreditation body (in our case SNAS) to check if it complies with the requirements of ISO 17065. If the Notified Body complies with these requirements, it receives accreditation and can be designated as a Notified Body by the government. The Notified Body is then listed in the NANDO database of the European Commission, and can perform conformity assessments for products that fall under its scope of accreditation.
Our scope of certification can be found in the following document: Accreditation scope. You can also find our scope on the website of SNAS: www.snas.sk, the governmental accreditation body in Slovakia. It is also the Slovakian government that has designation as a Notified Body. Our authorisation can be found here.
