The Research Institute for Textile Chemistry was established on the base of decision of the Ministry of Industry of the Slovak Socialist Republic on March 1st, 1970. This way branch structure of research institutes in Slovakia for the field of textile and clothing industry with relationship to chemical and fibre industry has been complemented.
In 1994 it was, as one of the first industrial institutes, privatized by the company VÚTCH-CHEMITEX, spol. s r.o., consisting of own employees and it continued its activities on the base of the original business objective.
For more than 50 years the institute operates in the field of industrial applied research focusing mainly on research, development and innovations of the assortment of technical, home and other textiles with the emphasis placed on application of progressive technologies of textile finishing and special finishes. Nanotechnologies, low-temperature atmospheric plasma, multifunctional textile finishes are under the spotlight in the last 10 years. An assortment of smart textiles is being developed as well.
