Smart textiles research
Research in the field of smart textiles and clothing focuses on innovation and extension of the assortment of smart textile structures based on wireless monitoring and transfer of human vital functions in real time. It involves research in the field of special electroconductive textiles, biomedical textile sensors and electrodes, wireless and mobile communication interlinked with the telemedicine.
The research focuses on:
- development of electroconductive yarns and sewing threads based on special electroconductive (metal, metalized) fibres using twisting technology on multifunctional twisting device DirecTwist 2B
- application of the electroconductive yarns to the assortment of textile fabrics
- development of passive textile sensors and active electrodes with incorporated electronics as indicators of electric signals generated by human body, designed to sense human vital functions, such as heart activity (ECG), body temperature, patient position monitoring etc.
- construction of data conductors and power cords designed to connect the textile electrodes with a control and communication unit
Multifunctional twisting device Direct Twist 2B
The automatic multifunctional twisting device with 2 independent twisting heads and with programmable adjustment is intended to twist and wrap spun yarns and filaments, including elastane, creating one blended yarn.
The technology is used to create electroconductive blended yarns and sewing threads, incorporating special ultrathin metal or metalized fibres, suitable for manufacture of electroconductive textiles. Textile sensors and electrodes, made from the electroconductive textiles, incorporated into construction of clothing and/or product (e.g. mattress topper) are a functional component of an integrated sensing system, designed for human biomedicinal data monitoring (e.g. ECG, pulse, body temperature etc.) in real time.
